Picture an isolated little desert community connected to the outside world by just a few winding dirt roads. Agriculture is key to the local economy but a few tourists are starting to come many attracted by the annual wildflower bloom. Is it the little homesteader community of Borrego in the 1930s or the new resort town of Borrego Springs in the 1950s? It could be either. Borrego and Borrego Springs are linked not only by place but in the ways both communities developed. This is not to say that Borrego Springs has not grown far beyond anything Borregos early settlers ever could have imagined but without Borregos pioneer homesteaders there most likely never would have been Borrego Springs.
